I got--got

My co-worker Knox decided to "decorate" my car while we were inside at the high school art show. He and the students went out to trash it. As I walked to my car with Temp, I was laughing in shock, not knowing they were all laughing behind me....oh the revenge will be sweet!
Back says "Just married", one side says "I'm so in love", the other side says "Honk if you love me" with a stick figure of me.

The hamburger and the Filipino show have been entered in the biggest art show of the year, we find out Friday if they got in!

Disclaimer: I was thinking yesterday that you, the reader, is experiencing my experimentation as an artist. I am purposely avoiding what I am either comfortable or feel that I am good at creating. I am trying new forms of art to expand my abilities or discover a form of art that I want to explore. So, whoever does look at this blog, for the past couple of months, this is not my strongest form of art. i am experimenting!!

Photo work

So we have a big art show coming up for the school district, these are 2 photos that will be entered in the show. These are first year photo students, black white 35mm photography. I took quick pictures of them, and they were wrapped in acetate, so the quality is not at it's finest.

Happy Easter

Templeton and I made our traditional easter basket last night. We didn't want a lot of candy this year, so we made the basket together instead of 2 separate ones. After waking up and stepping on a piece glass (ouch!!), Temp brought me some beautiful flowers as a little Easter gift. The Easter bunny came and brought us candy, and the eggs in the foreground are from Aunt Molly and Uncle Ed from a couple of years back.
We had a our traditional breakfast at Charlies and went for a walk. Now it's time for a nap I think.
7 year tradition, may it always continue!

A little drawing for my student

One of my students, who I really adore is moving back to the Phillipines. She said she wanted me to make her a piece of art to remember me by. I made this for her. On the back I am going to write a message about spreading your wings, so the bird is a little symbolic-yet comedic at the same time.

Altered page

Altered book, revisited

So I started doing altered books again, working off a new book. Temp had a calendar/survival guide "Worst Case Scenerio" that he never really used. It's got a calendar, images, cool words and seemed perfect for an altered book. Good size too, easy to carry around. (About 6"x7")
Here are my first 2 collages...it seems I have already developed a theme (not knowing it at the time). The theme seems to be life. Then, as I had mentioned in an earlier blog, I can reference my life, animal life, and, if you know me and my art, I love old men and their wrinkles, I can incorporate that too!!
This one I created the kangaroo and human body in class. (When I was supposed to be teaching!!) I brought some cheetah tissue paper to my next class and started to work on the negative space by tearing and adhering the paper. My kids started to come over and watch. They wanted to be a part of it. So I said we needed something in the upper left, and they found the word LIVE in one of my magazines. So we cut that out and added it. Then they found the gnome and wanted to add that. It ended up being a collaboration with about 5 other students and it was a good time. They want to start making their own now!!

I made this during my planning period. The man was first. I liked the word survival being that older people, death, etc has been affecting my life lately. I then took tracing paper, tore in piece and glued. Took blank ink and painted, gold paint on top, to give an antiqued effect. I then added charcoal on top of that to give contrast and give a wrinkled effect that reminded me of the old man.

I am still learning, but it's fun!
