Moleskine planner

So I am excited about my new toy. I got a moleskine planner. I love moleskine journals, and now have 4 to my name. Regular drawing/sketchbook ones, watercolor one, and now a planner. I had bought one for the school year, but I am very particular about the size. The one I got was a little too big to carry around. I was fishing around Barnes and Noble and found this. I thought at the time that I didn't need it, but later bought it online for $3 cheaper--$7.
It is flexi, not hard cover. It's got the week on the left side, and lines for notes on the other. Fits me PERFECTLY!
•As you can see, I took Sal to the vet yesterday. He didn't eat his normal dry food for a week (only 1 1/2 cans of tuna), so I had to take him in to get checked out. $300 later, it turned out his food went stale in the plastic container and he just need a fresh new bag.
•Tonite was supposed to be my art opening for the art show I mentioned in a previous post. As Temp and I tried to drive to it, the roads were flooded every turn and we had to go home. The show is up thru November, you should check it out at the Hermitage Museum!!
Notes on the right:
•Aztec Two Step-a band my co-worker recommended. Similar to Donovan and Dylan he says. Still researching them.
Snap4kids.org: an organization that a parent of my student with cerebral palsy started to raise money for physically disabled kids that can't afford wheelchairs.
•I want to get photo passes for my photo kids so they can roam the campus and take pics with their new pinhole cameras.
•Fur: I have been showing my kids contemporary photographers like Diane Arbus. Kid comes in today stating she was inspired in class and she watched a documentary on her and was stoked on it. I love kids that get into my classes!!
•The rest is stuff to do this weekend.

Hope you enjoyed! A little week in the life of Kellette. Get a moleskine planner, their awesome!

Good times

This weekend Temp and I went up to Jersey for my 10 year reunion. Arrived Friday evening, hung out with the parents and talked. Saturday my brothers and their wives, nephew, grandparents and 2nd mom came up to spend some time with us. It was awesome catching up and just spending quality time. As you can see above, Temp had the awesome opportunity of teaching our 1 1/2 year old nephew Colin how to skate. He was great!
10 year reunion was fun. It was held at a bar in town, 90 or so showed up, and it was just great catching up with everyone. I really enjoyed high school, keep in touch with about 30+ since high school, so it was a good time.
Sunday, beautiful drive back and home safe and sound.

Isn't Temp a great uncle!?

Entering show

I am entering a juried show for the Tidewater Virginia Art Education Association. One of my personal goals this year is to show my work. So this is my start! The first one is "The Andean Musician" taken in Cuzco, Peru. The second is "Left Behind" taken in an abandoned warehouse here in Norfolk. It's a nod to the No Child Left Behind Act, and how maybe our students who do graffiti and such and are the ones 'left behind'.
I have been thru a lot of stress with school this past week. Photography class has basically taken over my life. I spend at least 3 hours a day working on planning, learning, presentations. I look forward to things calming down. But I did find time to put some work together for this show.
Wish me luck!

Conversation

Outside during a fire drill:

Starts off with our secret handshake...
Student: "You livin' the hood life Mrs. E?"
Me: "You know it, it's the only way to live."
Student: "You goin' to the party at the block {not VA Beach!!} on Friday?"
Me: "Of course-you gonna be there?"
Student: "Yeah you know, just make sure you're saggin'"
Me: "You haven't even seen my street wear"

I love my job.
Translation: saggin' means you have to sag your jeans
And no, I am not going to the party

Special Delivery!

A day of uneventful tropical storm, I was pleasantly surprised by the mailbox. This artist, ST Lewis, sent me a postcard of his work. He is a video game designer for Avalanche Software for Disney. I have been a faithful viewer of his blog for years, and one day he stated that his old school made 300 copies of his work via postcards as a promotional item. He decided that the first 100 comments on his blog, his most faithful viewers, would get a handwritten postcard from him. I was number 5 (thank you Google Reader!!) ST Lewis is a big inspiration for my cartoon work, and I was super stoked to get a postcard from him.

Just a fun day at the zoo

Red panda that we have been waiting to see for a long time. No zoom lens--yet.

Temp and I rode bikes to the Norfolk Zoo, enjoyed a free day there (being an employee at the Botanical Gardens), then rode bikes to lunch. I got to use my new Nikon D50 finally! A perfect day this Labor Day.
